I’m fundraising for this, because it’s become clear to me that the NHS waiting times are too long for me to endure. I’ve already been waiting 2 years to be referred to the GIC (Gender Identity Clinic) and haven’t heard anything from them. This is just for an initial appointment, which is the beginning of a very lengthy process. It might be another 2 years *at least* of waiting until I’m anywhere near getting the medical help I need. This is the case for most trans people, where extremely long waiting times prevent access to necessary health care. Often, a lot of trans people are forced to go privately for their transition because of this, which means expensive medical bills, even in the UK. I’ve been on Universal Credit for the last 2 years now since leaving uni, and have little to no financial support outside of this. I am unable to work consistently due to my health (PTSD), and therefore unable to save in a way that’s sustainable, which is why I’m asking for help from others for this fundraiser. I would like to do some event based fundraisers and sell work to help towards this target, and so any money I make from that, I will adjust the target on here to reflect the money needed. Any extra money I raise on top of surgery costs will go towards travel costs and things to support me through recovery. Anything that isn’t used, I will donate to other top surgery funds, prioritising black and POC trans people. I know that in a lot of ways I’m very privileged to be able to access the help and support system that I do have, and even in creating this fundraiser. I wouldn’t ask for help if I didn’t see any other way of raising the money for a surgery that’s gonna completely change my life.
