ALS: The Turkington’s Family Changed Forever in a Blink of an Eye

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

This unfortunate rare disease is known to affect around 1 in 50,000 people—with NO CURE.

Matt Turkington, 37; a loving husband; wonderful father of two kids, Cole (8), Layla (6), and unforgettable friend has been diagnosed with this horrible disease.

It seems like yesterday that Matt was able enjoy life through a lens that we typically take for granted. Within the past 8 months Matt had to step aside from a career he loved in cooking due to the first stages of ALS; the muscle cramping, twitching, and chronic fatigue. Matt also immediately suffered from the ability to play music like he once had. It’s almost as if everything he loves will become unattainable one step at a time. Thankfully he is still currently able to get down on the floor and play, interact, and make memories with his children. However, before long, he will be facing moments that prevent him from being the usual “family man” that he is. This overwhelmingly puts life into perspective…

The pain will always be prevalent, but let us all work together to try and ease the burden of fear, struggle, and hardship. Let us unite as a family and build these kids the life that was intended for them.
