Hello,
My name is Joanna Evans and I am a proud Bahamian Olympian and former member of the Texas Women’s Swim and Dive team. My home country, particularly the very island that I grew up on, has been devastated by Hurricane Dorian.
For a few excruciating days, many of my close friends and family fought to survive the hurricane. Many scrambled into their ceilings as flood waters rose and prayed that rescue would arrive before water trapped them in their homes. Others swam across storm surges in hopes of finding shelter, leaving homes, all belongings, pets, and lifelong memories behind. Now, the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama are in a desperate situation. My Bahamian people need all the assistance they can get.
I have created this GoFundMe in response to many people have asking me for a credible place that they can donate so that their efforts end up in trusted hands. The funds raised will be donated directly to local organizations and heroes that are helping those who are in the most desperate need of assistance.

UPDATE ON USE : Over the last few weeks, I have identified groups of people that have drastic needs for assistance. On the island of Grand Bahama, East End has scores of people that have absolutely nothing left. This includes settlements such as Mclean's Town and High Rock. I will withdraw the funds in my name, and re-distribute, via check, to a local hardware store (Kelly's True Value) in Freeport for people to 'redeem'. With their assistance, supplies will be distributed to people from these areas. Individuals can redeem vouchers that can be used for anything at the store what they might need. Currently, the hardware store is most useful for building supplies and other simple necessities than can help on the road to recovery for these people. Some of these people I have personal relationships with, and they have helped me identify those who will likely not receive assistance from other outlets.
