Mckenna is 13 and has severe Pancreatis and has lost 70% of her pancreas. They removed her gallbladder which was creating the stones that blocked her pancreas and created this disaster. This put her in ICU for 3 days and hospitalized for 11 days. She also has fluid in her lungs and made 2 trips to the ER. Now back in Oakland Childrens Hospital (since 2/17/13) 3 days after discharge she has to undergo another surgery to drain her pancreas (pseudocysts) fluid which is causing a great deal of pain. She will be in the hospital for weeks ahead or if lucky enough can go home with stent in place. on 2/20/13 she went into another surgery and they placed a long tube in her body to help drain the fluid. This tube will be in place for quite some time and she will remain in the hospital at Oakland. Her family all lives in the Valley and its costly to travel daily to be with Mckenna. Each admit is costing $1500 her deductable is $5000. Im afraid to even see the share of our cost of medical. Mckenna is aa beautiful, vibrant young lady. Shes beyond her time and an old soul. She loves to write stories and listen to music. This will forever put her on a low fat diet. Shes very scared about her next surgery and the others ahead, yet always positive. All shes worried about is her homework and graduating this year from 8th grade. My heart breaks daily to see her in such pain yet so humbled by her actions. Shes my hero.
