Less than a week ago, the strongest earthquake in Mexico's history shook our southern states, leaving parts of Oaxaca and Chiapas devastated. Hundreds of families have been displaced and are sleeping in the streets; their homes are nothing but a pile of rubble or are uninhabitable due to structural damage.

My husband and I live in Guadalajara, Mexico, where we lead the Guadalajara campus of the City Church, a church based in Seattle. Our campus is collecting donations of food, water, tents, and other temporary shelters from many people within our community and city.

We are personally overseeing the distribution of collected supplies in Juchitán, Oaxaca, the most damaged city in the region. We are working closely with Operación Bendición México, a non-profit organization dedicated to disaster relief that we’ve partnered with in the past. They mobilized immediately after the quake and are doing an amazing work, getting help into the hands of those who need it most. Several members of our church, including me, are travelling to Oaxaca to help. We will be shipping the supplies we’ve collected to Oaxaca in the next day or two, and we will be there to receive them.

The greatest need right now is more temporary shelters. I can purchase a shelter and transport it for around 100 dollars. This can help a family have at least a roof over their head while they rebuild their lives. Larger shelters cost approximately $250 and can fit families with 15+ members.

I am personally reaching out to my friends and family (many of you have already reached out to me) to ask you to help me buy at least 24 more shelters—but 50 would make my heart sing! We have contacts with various airlines and bus companies that are shipping for free, as well as companies and individuals who are taking loads down at reduced costs.

I will personally make sure all donations through GoFundMe are used to buy and ship shelters to Oaxaca. As donations come in, we are purchasing temporary shelters through local stores including Sam’s, Costco, and Walmart, as well as online distributors in Jalisco and neighboring states. These include 4-person camping tents, lightweight yard tents ranging from 10x10 ft to 10x28 ft, 10x20 ft heavy-duty canopies, and more, depending on the needs of each family.

Please see the continued updates on this page for more information, or you can follow me on Facebook or Instagram stories. I will regularly post pictures and videos as we distribute food and set up shelters.

If you are donating from another nation, please note all donation amounts are in dollars.

Thank you all!!!
