Joel's Medical Fund

My name is Joy. I am starting a fund raiser for my dear friends Joel and Erika Alcantar and their 3 children. Joel recently was in a horrific car accident along with two of his children. The kids thankfully are ok and had some bumps and bruises. Joel however has suffered severe injuries to include lacerations to his legs and face, he had a laceration to his spleen, broke bones to his face, a fractured skull, broken ribs, damage to his eyes and many brusies. He has undergone quite a few surgery's already. His spleen was operated on twice due to him losing blood and having to have a blood transfusion. He has also undergone a major surgery to his skull, his face and his jaws. He underwent another surgery for his mouth and jaws again 5 days after the first. He had to have a trachea put in due to the surgery to his face. He is now on a feeding tube and lots of pain medication. He has been in ICU since the accident 3 weeks ago. As you can imagine Erika and Joel's life has been turned upside down. Erika is on a leave of absence from her job to be with her husband to ensure he is receiving the medical attention he needs.  Joel's job could not hold his position due to the extent of time he needs to heal. Erika has been by his side most of the time but has also tried to spend time with their kids. When she does sleep she wakes up and reality of everything hits her all over again. She worries about how she will pay the rent, bills and put food on the table for her children. And then there is the medical bills that insurance will not cover. Erika is struggling to make ends meet right now while trying to hold everything together. She is doing her best to keep going.  Erika and Joel are great people and will do anything to help anyone. Joel is a veteran who served in the Army with my husband as his Sergeant. They are not just our friends but they are family to us and also my daughters god parents. I ask that if you can help them even with a small donation it would mean the world to them and I promise you they will give back when they are able.
