Eddie B. Baughman Leukemia Battle

In early March 2016, Eddie Baughman, my 33 year old brother in law was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APML); with his case being an extremely rare form of this type of leukemia.  It was a very sudden and swift diagnosis with Eddie going to the emergency room on a Thursday morning and being diagnosed just 2 days later.  He was admitted to Baylor Cancer Hospital in Dallas on Saturday, March 5th to immediately begin treatment and what would result in a 7+ week initial hospital stay. Eddie has remained very strong and positive throughout his diagnosis and treatment; but has a long road ahead with additional rounds of chemo which include further hospital stays. Both Eddie and Shelby have good careers and supportive families, but with this process there is also an onslaught of unforeseen medical expenses . We are humbly asking for any donations to help relieve the financial burden on Eddie and my sister.

Below is an update from Shelby on Eddie’s journey to come:

Eddie just completed his second round of chemotherapy which required him to be treated in-patient.  We met with his Oncologist on May 11th and Eddie will have at least two more rounds of chemotherapy in the coming months that will also require him to be hospitalized.  With Eddie’s type of leukemia being so rare (only 2 other documented cases world-wide) the Oncologist wants to take all precautions during his treatment which is why out-patient isn’t an option.  Unfortunately with the type of chemotherapy Eddie receives his blood counts are wiped out to zero and then rebuilt with healthy cancer free blood.  This is very daunting for Eddie physically- he gets very tired, has had some blurred vision, and loss of appetite.  His spirits and outlook through this process have been excellent and knowing Eddie I believe they will continue to be!
