Diabetic Alert Dog for Sean and Pat

I am a mom of an almost 9 year old boy (Sean) who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes, 2 years ago.  I am also the wife of a Type 1 Diabetic (Pat). Since Sean was diagnosed, we have been fighting to maintain good blood sugar levels. He might have really good levels for a couple weeks and then suddenly be high all the time. Sean has become desensitized to the feeling of having a high blood sugar or low blood sugar.  He can be dangerously low or dangerously high and not feel it and not act differently. We started talking about getting a Diabetic Alert Dog (D.A.D.) to help see those highs or lows coming before it gets out of control.  Sean's dad, Pat, maintains his diabetes well, but gets very unresponsive once his sugar level goes below a certain point. Just recently Pat had seizures and was unresponsive after a low blood sugar.  To keep them both safe I decided to go ahead with the D.A.D..  I should mention too, that having a D.A.D. in the house will help me sleep at night, too. Since my son was diagnosed, I can't count more than a handful of nights where I actually slept through the night without worrying about him.  Most nights I either wake up on my own to test his blood sugar or I set my alarm to wake up to test him.
