Send HiveBio to the White House!

Just about 4 years ago, I was in school for Clinical Psychology and independently studying Neuroscience. As a kinesthetic learner, I was searching for a biosciences lab that would let me come in and try out some of the techniques that I was reading about. Without either a PhD or a whole bunch of money, I was getting turned down over and over again.

This desire to learn, this frustration with the status quo, gave birth to HiveBio Community Lab, Seattle's DIYbio (Do-It-Yourself) makerspace. HiveBio is a place wherein anyone can come to learn and play with biosciences, regardless of income or degree.

With the tireless participation of the amazing HiveBio Executive team, HiveBio opened it's doors in October of 2013. Thanks to the amazing DIYbio community we've seen this grassroots organization grow into a great company that is able to offer all kinds of awesome biosciences classes to the public, as well as offer research lab space and a number of science outreach programs to the citizen scientists of the Pacific Northwest.

Fast forward to today. HiveBio Community Lab has been invited to the White House! We have a chance to meet with White House representatives (fingers crossed for Obama!) and fellow Makerspace founders and discuss the maker movement and more. Yay!

So here's the kicker, folks. Makerspace founders are broke. If we started out with any money (which I didn't) we have most likely spent most of it on our makerspace. This is where I need your help. I would love to represent HiveBio at the White House, but first I need to get there. I humbly ask for donations to make this happen. Any money donated to this gofundme will go towards:

- Plane tickets
- Motel stay
- Food
- Transportation
- Other random travel expenses

I need to be in Washington DC on August 24th, so I don't have much time to gather the funds to go. My hope is to purchase plane tickets and book motel stay pretty much the moment I have the money to do so, so the sooner you can donate, the better.

I promise to bring back lots of photos and stories, which I will be happy to email anyone who donates. I'm also happy to do some free graphic design, tech support, or project management for you, if you like!
