Help Repair and Protect The Way Church from Racism

Donation protected
We put up a #BlackLivesMatter sign at The Way Church (a community meeting space that serves Black people and communities of color around several needs, locally and nationally), and an arsonist tried to burn our church down after midnight, the same day. This would have destroyed important resources stored inside to support communities around COVID19 as well as continue providing spiritual and social support for hundreds of families across the Bay. Thankfully, a neighbor responded before the entire building burned down, and there was minimal damage in comparison to what could have happened. The legacy of “burning Black churches down” is a historical one. This practice has been used for over 100 years to incite racial terror in Black people, particularly, who seek to resist anti black racism. In the wake of Trumpism, Black leaders and institutions are now tasked to try and protect their families and sacred spaces while also managing the trauma of multiple pandemics happening at the same time. We need to raise money to repair the building and install a security system (cameras and personnel) as we continue resisting anti-black racism in systems and society! Please help where you can and share widely to help us meet our goal! It is our duty to fight for our freedom, it is our duty to win! We must love and support each other, we have nothing to lose but our chains! - Assata Shakur
