Light Up Milot, Haiti

Donation protected
My name is Bob Schuenemann. I live Leavenworth, Wa. and recently I went on a medical mission to Milot, Haiti. Milot is located just outside Cap Haitien (the second largest city in Haiti). There are about 30,000 people living in Milot. During my two weeks there I had the oppurtunity to see how the people lived day to day. It was astonishing and shocking to see the poverty and lack of infrastructure. The town itself does not have a consistent power supply. Only the hospital, a few street lights, and the medical dormitory had power supplied by a generator. Every night our team would walk back from the hospital and see dozens of school age children reading and studying under these street lights. It was very moving! The children have to walk up to a mile on dark roads with hundreds of motorcycles passing by. This was just one of the dangers we witnessed. Many accidents a year happen due to this situation. My father, Fred Schuenemann has been serving on these missions for the last 17 years. He says, "the most important commodity we can help the people with, other than food, is light."
When I traveled back to the U.S. I became determined to do something for the people of Haiti. I didn't know what I could do that would help them over the long term and be totally sustainable.
One evening, while talking with people about my trip, the Luci Light was mentioned...and a seed was planted. The Luci Light is a small LED blow-up solar powered light. These lights are commonly used for outdoor backpacking and camping. The lights cost $14.95 each but the company will give a discount for third world charity.

For $13 dollars we have the opportunity to give light where there is darkness and bring hope to these kids' lives. Every morning thousands of kids wake up put their uniforms on and head to school. The school system is such an important institution for Haitians. For them to be able to read and study safely at night would give them a chance at a brighter future. Not only will the kids be able to study at home during the night but their family will be able to eat dinner together when the sun goes down!
I've have come to the realization that to be truly greatful for what I have I need to give something in return. This is an opportunity for all of us to really change someone's life for a relatively small amount of money. Please consider supporting this cause.
