Hello everyone!
My name is Shalanda Baldwin and I’m currently studying at Lansing Community College and I work as a server at Mikes Village Restaurant.
This summer will be one of the best of my life; I am studying abroad in PARIS! Those who know me know that this is a dream come true! I just didn't realize how expensive this was going to be.
I will be studying French language and culture at the Catholic University of Paris! The program I chose has my first weekend being spent in London, then I spend a weekend in Normandy, and I also get to see Chateaux of the Loire Valley. (A CASTLE)
I have been struggling with choosing a career path going back and forth between so many choices and my advisor suggested that study abroad would be great for me!
This means so much to me because I lost my mom at a young age and ever since then I have been bending over backwards to make her proud. Getting the best grades that I can, being a good hard worker, and helping others when I can are examples of how I try to achieve these goals.
Like I said I've always wanted to go to France, so I'm paying for this trip with everything I've put in savings! Working at Mikes Village Restaurant every shift I can even pulling double shifts when I can. I've been saving my financial aid up (what I have had left over in the semesters) and have been saving every penny I can. However, due to this being summer classes financial Aid will not cover any of it. So, I have to pay for it all. My program includes just about everything almost all of my meals are included and of course with every trip there are additional fees that we don't see coming our way.
My program with my flight included, room and board, some of the meals, and my extrusions comes to $8,830. I also will still have my normal bills at home. Being only 20 years of age this came as a shock for me.
My father has tried to provide the best life he can for me but he simply just can’t afford to help me with any of the expenses. All of the money I receive will go directly towards helping me pay for the trip!
I appreciate every single penny and dollar that you give. Thank you so much for allowing me to have access to this journey.
