Valerie Funk's finally getting a nose! Her Story (The Short Version) In 1998 Valerie was accidentally shot in the head and face. Though the doctors were able to save her life there was little that could be done to repair the damage to her face. In the years since her accident Valerie has been plagued with many breathing problems and debilitating infections that threaten her very existence. Recently, after enduring another life-threatening infection Valerie's doctors said the time has finally come to rebuild her face and give her a nose to help her breathe. With the modern advances in reconstructive surgery there are many options available now that simply didn't exist all those years ago. We are anticipating there to be between 8-15 surgeries in total. We are expecting to have significant expenses not covered by insurance along with additional costs for travel and lodging since the doctors and hospital where the surgeries will take place is over two hours away from her home.
