Fund A Black Lives Matter Mural at Teaneck High

Donation protected
Over the last several months, we have all been confronted with difficult issues (i.e., the coronavirus pandemic, seeing George Floyd murdered in front of our eyes, national uprisings, etc.) Although these issues have impacted each of us in different ways, we must understand that as a collective, we have strength and can make a difference regarding these issues. In Teaneck, we must say that we promote respect, empathy, and justice for all. It is during the times of difficulty when this is most important. The time is now. Part of displaying a strong sense of community means being aware of the racial struggles of people and raising awareness of these struggles so that change can be established. People of African descent (Afro Americans, Afro Caribbeans, Afro Hispanics, African Americans) have struggled and dealt with oppression for hundreds of years, and this struggle and fight continues. Now throughout the nation people of all backgrounds are coming together to acknowledge these facts. As residents of Teaneck we want to make a strong and lasting demonstration of solidarity. If we remain silent when any segment of our community is faced with injustice, oppression, and disrespect, we would fail as a town to demonstrate the values that we claim to uphold. In an effort to bring the various segments of the Teaneck community together in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, the Teaneck Black Lives Matter Street Mural Committee was formed. A proposal has been submitted to the township for permission to create a street mural on State Street in Teaneck. We will, however, need to raise the necessary funds to support this effort. This grassroots effort will demonstrate how united we are in getting this done. The funds raised would be used to secure the graphic artists, cover the costs of the supplies and fund a community-wide event in which Teaneck’s youth will be able to participate in painting the mural. We need your help. Let’s show what we can do when we all come together for a positive cause.
