23 y/o Teacher with Stage 4 Cancer

Twenty-Three year old Cyerrah Dunlap was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage 4 Cancer on March 7th, 2018. She had been experiencing symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, body aching, fevers, joint weakness , loss of appetite, shortness of breathe, and swollen lymph nodes. The symptoms have been consistent over the last year. However, several specialists assumed it had to do with stress levels and severe anemia. She was not prescribed anything initially, but was recommended to increase her iron intake and food consumption. Cyerrah hadn't had any treatment or screenings until she began to feel symptoms similar to the flu. Once she was diagnosed with the flu mid January 2018, she was prescribed antibiotics and later received her first blood test and chest x-ray, which came up abnormal. After several blood test, a CT Scan, Bone Marrow Extraction, Lymph node Biospy, and PET Scan Cyerrah's oncologist was able to diagnose her with a rare cancer called Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma. A cancer that starts within the lymph nodes and attacks the immune system.

Cyerrah's oncologist recommended her to start chemotherapy immediately. She will undergo 6 months of chemotherapy then a session of radiation. She has been taken off of work and is in the care of her mother Luada who has also had to take a leave of absence from work at this time. Luada has been an insured member of United Health Care for most of Cyerrah's life. Unfortunately, the insurance policy denied coverage of the medications needed for chemotherapy. Leaving cost of treatment, medical bills, and the expense of daily living up to Cyerrah and her single mother.

Cyerrah has always been one of the strongest fighters for herself and her loved ones. She attended California State University Northridge the past 5 years while managing to be a full time teacher at a preschool. She has been passionate about the care and well-being of others and has plans to finish schooling and continue providing for herself and those around her. With faith and support from family and friends, Cyerrah is in good spirits and is maintaining her beautiful smile through it all.
