Courtney was admitted to Cabell Huntington on July 1st. Below is her Facebook post explaining her condition and the treatments taking place to keep baby Gorman safe and healthy as long as possible. During this time, Michael and Courtney are both residing at Cabell Huntington. Due to COVID, Michael is unable to leave Courtney's side.
So many people have been praying and believing for healing for Courtney and Baby Gorman. Many have also asked how they can help. We wanted to make a way that people can contribute and be a blessing for them! Please read her story below:
Last Wednesday, we went for a routine ultrasound. As the doctors were looking at the umbilical cord they found what is called “absent-end-diastolic flow.” This essentially means that blood was not flowing consistently through the umbilical cord, which could occur as a result of placental insufficiency. We were immediately told to go home and pack a bag for a few days because they were admitting me to the hospital.
Most probably don’t know, but Courtney has a rare blood disorder, where her blood has a tendency to clot more than it’s supposed to. Because of this disorder, she was already classified as high risk and had been receiving close monitoring every two weeks. This complication is something the doctors had predicted could possibly happen, so thankfully they were keeping a close eye on her and caught this early.
After Courtney was admitted to the hospital, the doctors explained that she was going to be undergoing a treatment called Plasmapheresis. This is a transfusion in which Courtney’s blood is removed, her plasma is separated from her blood cells (the plasma is the part which contains all the “bad” antibodies), and is then replaced with donor plasma. Her blood is then returned to her body. The doctor’s hope is that this process would help the placental problems and allow blood to continue flowing smoothly throughout the cord.
A couple days after being admitted to the hospital, Courtney also developed preeclampsia and high blood pressure. After these developments occurred, the doctors made it clear to us that we would not be leaving the hospital until the baby is born.
This is definitely not something we anticipated, but we are thankful for the amazing doctors and nurses who caught this early and have been taking such wonderful care of us. We are not shaken, if anything, our faith grows stronger with each day. Every day is a celebration and we are standing on God’s promises. We believe that God has an amazing purpose and plan for our baby boy’s life and we believe his testimony will be great!
PRAISE REPORTS-
-The treatment seems to be working wonderfully, as the last few ultrasounds show NO absent sections in the cord!
-Baby and mom are doing great. Baby Gorman has a strong heartbeat, and is a total wiggle worm in his mom’s belly. The doctors say this is a great sign!
-We keep hitting goals and milestones that the doctors say are amazing! We can see God’s hand moving in this situation.
We ask our family and friends who would, to keep us in your prayers as we continue to navigate the days and weeks ahead. We are standing on the Word of God and know He is faithful to keep His promises. We have hope in the Lord!
Joshua 21:45
Not a single one of ALL the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything He had spoken came true.
Romans 4:21
And being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able also to perform.
Philippians 4:6,7
In nothing be anxious, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds, through Christ Jesus.
