Help Katie Continue at UMD

Hey everyone! —Trigger Warning: SA, Child abuse— I’m looking for funding for school. As many of my loved ones know, I was awarded a full ride to the University of Maryland College Park. I depended on this funding considering that I am first generation and my parent works hard just to provide our basic necessities. After a sexual assault and dealing with diagnosed Major Depressive Disorder as well as Complex PTSD, my grades dropped. I was approached about my grades by UMD staff who was aware of the sexual assault and the fact that I am a victim of long term child abuse. I opened up to the staff member and received hateful and discriminatory comments. The staff member also disclosed to me another student who was a sexual assault victim. This made me feel as though my story wasn’t safe with her, so I reported her to the Office of Diversity, directly following this I was removed from the scholarship program. I essentially lost more than half of my funding for school. I am still attempting to fight for my rights and to defend myself against this injustice. In the meantime I have to continue school and I need your help to do it. I refuse to be pushed out of UMD as many Latinas dealing with mental health issues and sexual assault usually are.
