Alex's Immigration Legal Fees

Our nephew Alex will be 18 years old in November 2016.  For most young men turning 18 is a right of passage, a time filled with excitement, freedom, growth and new opportunities.    For Alex , turning 18 means nearly the opposite of that due to his legal status.

His mother is a US born citizen and his birth father is Mexican.  Alex was born in Mexico and brought to the US at a very young age.  Alex's mother and father split shortly after coming to the States.   Alex and his mother stayed here and his father moved back to Mexico and has had no involvement in his son's life.   His mother made many attempts to legalize his status, but the father would not be any part of it even when she could finally locate him, which has left Alex's legal status in limbo for all of these years.

The door is quickly closing to get his papers in line and to give him the opportunity to be the American he has always known himself to be.

We have a great lawyer here in Los Angeles who can expedite his paperwork.  He is estimating the cost to be anywhere from $3,000 - $5,000.    This is a huge amount of money for a family who has just enough to get by.    Alex's stepfather is the sole provider for his wife, 3 young daughters and Alex.

Any donation small or large will be greatly appreciated!

Help profoundly impact the life of an amazing young man who wants nothing more than to finally proudly say he is American and live the life only this country has to offer.

Here is what Alex has to say:
"On the fourteenth of November in 1998 I was born in Ensenada, Baja California. At the age of four I moved to America where I started my educational journey. After a few trips to Mexicali and having trouble with immigration services on the way back, I learned that I was an immigrant at a young age; however, at the time, not grasping the immensity of the meaning of that fact, I didn’t care. Being an immigrant (as a child) wasn't a big deal as long as I attended school.  However, now that I am almost done with highschool shortly reaching the age of 18 that basic right is now is being threatened and  being a Legal United States Citizen is the most important thing because as soon as I turn 18 I will be deprived of my rights which were temporarily lent to me by my mother's U.S. citizenship. To have citizenship in the United States means being allowed to further my education and continue to go to college to and get a Bachelor's in Nursing, while enlisting in The Navy to help my fellow American soldiers. If I were deported back to Mexico, I’m not sure how my life might end up, but I know it would not be the life I had planned for. Because I’m not Mexican. I'm an American and America is a collection of people, of immigrants and natives alike, a melting pot of people clenching arms and striving to make a greater tomorrow one step at a time. "
