I’ve been asked to write a letter explaining who the fundraiser is for, and, well, I just decided I was going to tell you about Raven so you get a sense of not only who she is, but why we’re having a fundraiser for her.
Raven is a 23 year old kind, loving, selfless, wonderful girl who has been fighting cancer for over 6 years. She was originally diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which has now, over the past 6 years, moved into her lung and some parts of her bones and well, further… but she continues to fight!
Raven has just begun another round of chemo with a brand new drug called “Nivolumab” and goes to London every two weeks. She truly is a miracle. They told me that at the hospital yesterday. I knew it already, but the word “miracle” is very good to hear when it comes to cancer and we keep praying for more. I watch Raven sit in brave silence as she’s poked and prodded and I ask her the never-ending question “how are you doing?” and in her ever so sweet voice she replies “I’m fine”. And every so often a nurse comes and checks on her and asks her how she’s feeling and again she smiles and replies “I’m fine thank you”. Raven absolutely amazes me with her courage, her determination, her strength, her selflessness and her love for others, never once worrying about herself or thinking to put herself first. I thank God every day that Raven and my son Dylan found each other.
Raven continually raises money for other charities, including the Canadian Cancer Society by entering her team annually in the Relay for Life, along with doing multiple fundraisers for the Humane Society and the YMCA, and any other family or charity that crosses her path. She truly is amazing!!
And this is why people want to do this fundraiser for Raven… because she’s been so generous with her time and energy and her selflessness by always, ALWAYS putting others first. This is Raven… she is not a registered charity, she’s just an amazing, wonderful, beautiful, 23 year old girl in the fight of her life, and we’re just trying to raise a bit of money to help her out while she’s in treatment. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
On a personal note, it’s truly an honor to be not only helping with this fund raiser, but to be Ravens’ common-in-law-mother-in-law. She means the world to me. She’s my heart, she’s my joy, she is my hero, and she truly is amazing. She is a wonderful role model for my daughter Brooklyn who looks up to Raven and worships the ground she walks on. She’s the love of my son’s life and our entire family absolutely adores her. Raven’s mom Sandy McCann-Drenth and I have known each other since we were 5 years old, and I can tell you that Sandy is the strongest mom I’ve ever met! That’s where Raven gets her strength from… her mom. Raven’s family is also an incredible source of love for her.
