My name is Noah Patrick. I am a member of the EWP- Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers Club. I have recently had the good fortune of being named a member of the Canadian Under 21 Mens Canoe Polo team. We will represent Canada at the World Championship in August 2016 in Sicily, Italy. There are 9 member on my team and we will require approximatley $6500 each to cover air fare, transport of our kayaks, uniform, purchase of my kayak, training camps, food and accomodations. We will be out of the country for a total of 3 weeks.
Canoe (kayak) polo is a fast growing discipline of the International Canoe Federation, and is different than other kayaking activities. Canoe polo is an exciting game that associates elements of kayaking, water polo, and basketball. On a pitch that spans 30 meters length-wise, two teams of 5 players compete in two 10-minute halves. The objective of the game is to score in a goal suspended 2 meters above the water. The contact sport is vigorous and fast. Canoe polo is played in 50 countries worldwide with increasing press and television coverage.
Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers was the first Canadian club to play this relatively new sport, and has been supplying the bulk of the National Team members since the first World Championships in 1994, and has since hosted many multiple international competitions including the 2008 World Championships.
I feel great fortune to have this chance to represent Team Canada and am excited at the opportunity. I have a lot of passion for this sport and work hard to be successful while enjoying my time on the water.
I have aquired an afterschool job doing landscaping to help towards my training. Between school, work and my training I am a busy teen. I do find time on the weekend for friends and biking though. My family and I truly appreciate your support. I personally Thank you in advance for helping to get me to Italy. This is a chance of a lifetime and I am honored to have this opportunity to represent my county.
