Kyzaiah's Journey

Aloha,
My name is Kaimanalani Smith, I have a loving fiance Wesley Valletta and we both have 2 beautiful daughters and 2 handsome sons. Our youngest son Kyzaiah who is now 3years old, has been on a very bumpy road in life. When I was only 5months pregnant with Kyzaiah I received the news that my unborn child had a birth defect. He was prenatally diagnosed with a Heart Disease called Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum in the Right Ventricle.

Pulmonary Atresia is problems with valve development which prevents the leaflets from opening. In a short summary the valves on the right side of his heart, one was closed and the other is very narrow; therefore blood cannot flow forward from the right ventricle to his lungs. So with that being said, the Cardiologist advised us of 3 Heart Surgeries that will need to be done. Blalock - Taussing (B-T) shunt at birth, Glenn Shunt 4-6 months old, and Fontan 2-5 years old. The result would be a complete bypass of the right ventricle, so blood flows back from the body directly into the lungs.

Finding all this out while pregnant we were also instructed to relocate from Maui, HI to San Diego, CA for the delivery of my unborn child and his 1st Heart Surgery. In May of 2011 Kyzaiah was born at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital and than transported directly to Rady Childrens Hospital's NICU and having his 1st heart surgery @ 2days old.

With 2 Heart Surgeries, 1 Gastric Fundoplication & Feeding Tube placement Surgery, 2 Incision Infections, ongoing Doctor visits between the islands of Maui and Oahu, and one more Heart Surgery that will take place in the near future we are reaching out for any type of Donations to help pay for his medical bills and preparing for air transportation, lodging, etc. for his next heart surgery that will be taking place in San Diego, California.

Watching Kyzaiah fight for his life from birth and just being there beside him every step of the way, it has been a long journey in such a short time so far and with his journey, it still keeps going. Kyzaiah is such a fighting soldier who keeps going in full force conquering every battle put on him and still he always has a smile on his face at the end of the day. We are so blessed to have him in our life, he is such an inspiration to us. He shows us, how life isn't always what you expect it to be but how you can still enjoy every moment of it in many ways. Seeing him everyday with such a happy and joyful personality especially a baby who has been through so much, we are so proud to say, " That's our SON!"
