Food Relief: Families on the edge of starvation

We need your help! Help us raise funds to provide food relief packs directly to families in the slums of Cebu City, Philippines who have no means of income during this pandemic, amidst probably the strictest lockdown in the world. *********************************************** Hello! My name is Mai, I’m a Filipina currently based in New Jersey. While most of us here in the states continue to deal with the effects of the pandemic on our lives - physical, social, mental, and economic (unemployment, for a lot of us) all, while fighting a pandemic within a pandemic- racial injustice, it has not escaped me, that we can all still count ourselves among the lucky ones, if we count with gratitude the resources and systems that are put in place and available to help us. In third world countries like the Philippines, people have no unemployment aid. Food aid and relief are scanty and most of the times, delayed. People in the urban poor communities mostly work in ‘no work, no pay’ jobs in construction, transport, and street selling/begging/ scrap selling. And the government has taken a largely punitive approach to address a public health emergency, when people act in desperation and plain hunger. This is the situation in the Philippines. And it has become more dire now in Cebu City, as they upgraded the lockdown to close off neighborhoods within the city from each other, to control the spread of CoVid19. Your generous contribution can give direct help to the people who have no means to help themselves right now. Your 10$, equivalent to P500, can fill up a relief package replete with several kilos of rice, canned goods, and noodles that can sustain a whole family for at least a week. Imagine what you can do with $20! For those of us who are in the position to give, it takes so little to make such a big impact. This is a grassroots operation. Whatever money is received from this campaign will be used to purchase the food items that will then be packed into individual relief packets to be distributed directly to the families. Rest assured, your contribution will not be encumbered by bureaucratic roadblocks, and will directly reach the people in need, in the hardest hit areas of the city. No help is too small.
