Lawyering for the People

Hi! My name is Nora, I’m a queer Black non binary person gathering funds to sit for the California bar exam. As a poor Black person, there is little representation of people who come from my background fighting for us in the system, while that same system incarcerates us at disproportionate rates. After failing the bar exam in 2013 I wandered aimlessly but also questioned what my role could be, knowing the criminal justice system is anything but just. Since then I’ve been inspired by the work of movement lawyers, lawyers on the ground doing the work of connecting the people to the system, while dismantling the system. Taking these years off has helped me mature and root myself in the type of work I want to do, be a true servant to marginalized people and it’s with this clear direction that I’m asking for your help.
There is a lot that goes into take the bar exam, there’s a smaller test of moral character, an extensive background check, and an expensive pre bar study course that all have to be satisfied before sitting for the actual bar exam.
I am planning on taking the July 2021 bar exam, this gives me time to get all the things together above, however I will need help in order to have a fair chance to pass. My plan is to take three months (April- July 2021) off work to spend my time solely studying for the bar exam. I also plan on taking an extended bar review course that is more expensive and is geared towards graduates who have been out of law school for a while.
I hope you can help and thank you.
