Sunshine to Maritimes - California Dogs

Animal Rescue Corps assists the Friends of Palm Springs Animal Shelter in reducing the number of animals currently awaiting adoption in the overburdened shelter. ARC is coordinating the placement and transportation of approximately 100 dogs and cats to rescue organizations in Canada. After exhaustive outreach to placement partners throughout North America, ARC has identified a group of partners in Nova Scotia that has the sufficient resources to foster these animals and make them part of a loving family. The groups involved in the Maritimes are Atlantic Small Dog Rescue, East Coast German Shepherd Rescue, Maritime Pit Project, DunRoamin' Stray and Rescue and Cat Action Team. Many of the animals already have adoptive homes awaiting them.
The mission will be accomplished in two back to back transports; the first transport left Palm Springs the morning of Thursday, February 7th and hopes to arrive in Nova Scotia on Tuesday February 12th.
Atlantic Small Dog Rescue will be taking in 15 of the 100 animals involved in this effort. These dogs have been rescued from puppy mills, neglectful owners, and hoarding situations. ASDR Vice President, Nahleen Ashton says, " We will be opening our hearts and homes to as many as 15 dogs from California, offering them a new opportunity to find permanent homes here in Canada".Wondering how you can help ASDR with this rescue? Donating to ASDR will help to cover some of the costly vet bills that will be associated with these 15 small dogs. While ARC and Palm Springs Animal Shelter have made efforts to vet the dogs before departure, some are too young to have received their full vaccinations and be spayed or neutered, and at least one dog will be needing further veterinary care for a luxating patella.
