Team Amax Malignant Histiocytosis Journey

Donation protected
I recently learned that I have a very rare immune cell cancer, (it is classified as a blood cancer), called malignant Histiocytosis. It is multi-focal/multi-system, meaning it has done/is doing damage in multiple places in multiple systems and organs of my body, including skeletal, lungs, liver, intestines, brain, skin, nervous system, and endocrine axis, (thyroid, etc.), for starters. I will be traveling to Texas, and possibly also Minnesota, to see specialists who can hopefully guide a treatment plan and possibly get me into a trial study, as very few oncologists have even seen a patient with this type of cancer, and it is uncertain whether I will need to have funds for treatment or not, since my Tenncare Medicaid is only good in Tennessee. The current protocol for this level of involvement is one year of chemotherapy. If I’m unable to qualify for a trial study, it is uncertain what the cost would be for treatment. Cancer is expensive, in ways most never consider. Parking is sometimes a fee with various diagnostics and procedures, much gas is used just going to appointments in town, and the closest endocrinologist who takes my Amerigroup Tenncare Medicaid is 1.5 hours away. I am fortunate, thanks to a dear friend, to have had a mobility scooter for five years now, but am no longer able to put it in/out of my vehicle on my own due to muscle weakness, so need a hitch installed on my vehicle and a carrier with a ramp for it, which will make life much easier. I need to make sure I have funds to cover travel expenses to and from the states to which I will travel, and there will be accommodations needed along the way and upon arrival. I’ve also run into issues with obtaining medications, since Tenncare only covers up to five, and I have 23 prescriptions at last count, (and counting), with three additional prescribed by the dermatologist to help deal with what this disease is doing to various spots on my skin on my legs, arms, scalp, and even in my ear canals. I don’t expect to raise the full amount all at once - like my treatments and hopeful recovery, this will be a marathon, not a sprint - but every donation, no matter how small, is helpful for another step on this journey. I’m aware that many are struggling financially due to the pandemic, so I have realistic expectations and expect that many are not in a position to help, so please do not feel badly if you’re unable to do so, but your moral support is appreciated and valuable to me as well. Thanks for all of your many forms of support, both in the past and in the present and future, friends!
