Almost American

Hello, I'm Leo Zega George, (24). I'm a Liberian, I have four sisters and two brothers. My mother and father have been separated (since 2007) and my father left us with our mother and went to another country/state with his new wife, so my mother had to struggle to feed, clothe and send us to school (which is very difficult in Liberia for a single mother). My older brother is a handicap, I'm the next oldest, the others our little brothers and sisters. So I had to leave school and look for work to help my mother feed the home, but now we don't have our own place to sleep so we have to rent one room and manage month-to-month, which is another problem. Liberia is very difficult for us, the poor, and if I don't make the sacrifice now to look for work and earn money it will not be good for me or my family. My mother isn't doing well, one of my sisters is presently lying in the hospital because of malnutrition and my big brother who is the handicap, needed surgery for his left foot but there wasn't any money so it got damaged further, now his entire left leg is crippled, not only his foot... that is the reason why I want to come to the United States of America, to work and earn a fair wage, to have a chance at a better life and for the opportunity to save the lives of me and my family. We don't have food to eat or a place to call home, my sisters and I are not in school because we all have to work just to live. All I want is the chance to give my family a better life and the chance to live.
