Two days after I graduated college, my whole world fell apart. After being incubated in the ICU for nearly a month, my dad passed away due to Covid-19 related respiratory failure. He left no will, a mountain of debt, and two daughters to figure it all out. Two days after he passed, my sister’s kitchen caught on fire. She was then taken to the hospital for skin graft surgery due to having severe burns on the whole right side of her body. The one person who was going to help me figure this out, is now recovering from her own injuries, with her own medical bill. My dad was my primary guardian and now I am alone. I don’t have a home to go back to and I have to find a way to pay for his hospital bills, our phone plan, in addition to food and necessities. Death certificates, funeral procedures, legal consul (since he died without a will), and transportation are all things that I have now deal with on my own. The rest of my family have been trying to help in their own way, but most of them are all quarantined in NYC or sick with the virus themselves. I have been actively trying to look for jobs, but since I don’t drive, and most things are still closed, I have had no luck. I find it difficult to ask monetary support from friends, mentors and sisters, but I am asking for any form of help if you are able. If you are not, I would love to hear from you and know that you are safe. **The amount that I am listing is just the amount for my dad’s hospital bills and EMS services. For now, this is the only concrete number that I can think of. I know i’m not liable for his medical debt, but I don’t have another number to put as a goal **
