BROKEN Documentary Film

This trailer is just a glimpse of the heart-wrenching, scenario, we have found ourselves in, since 2016. We still do not have justice for our two children, who were 22 months-old and 3 years-old, when we became aware of their abuse. They are now 6 and 8.

In early 2020, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office wrote us several emails, saying they were assigning investigators to re-open our 2016 case, and would interview the multiple doctors and therapists to whom our young children disclosed horrific details of sex abuse. In two of those emails, a case detective and a sheriff’s office commander said they would then refer our case to County Attorney Brian McIntyre for prosecution.

Sadly, we received an email in the beginning of March, from the case detective, telling us he had been reassigned to other duties. Since then, we have received no word from Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels, as to who -if anyone- is now assigned to our case.

Sheriff Dannels has BROKEN his promise to our family by not keeping his word. Which is all the more frustrating, because my husband is a Federal Agent, who was even deputized by this sheriff, and has worked alongside his deputies.

No one imagines these horrors will ever happen to them. When you bring home your precious newborn, you have no idea they could end up being the victim of a heinous sex crime. It is unthinkable, impossible.

We've spent tens of thousands of dollars and emptied our life-savings for attorneys, counselors and therapy, and medical care for our children to ensure their well-being. Our children are still traumatized by what happened to them and they may need lifelong therapy. But when they are older, we want them to know we did absolutely everything we could, to bring their predators to justice.

Protecting children may seem like common sense, but it’s just not that simple, when it comes to sex predators. I often tell people, children are safer with a bear in the woods, than with a sex predator. These predators are great at blending into a community and know how to trick parents, the police, prosecutors, judges, even their own families.

That’s one reason we decided to create BROKEN, a full-length documentary, about our horrific experience, in hopes it leads to prosecution of the people, who abused our children. And by telling our family’s story, we absolutely believe, we can protect other children from predators. If we can save just one child, then it's worth it.

BROKEN will also educate the community on how to keep kids safer, such as the 25 red flags of a child sex offender, how they groom families first, before ever getting close to your child. How sex predators are lying, manipulative, narcissistic personalities, who routinely game the system.

Words can't express our gratitude to everyone, who has encouraged us to shine a bright light on the evil predators, who live in our communities. For four years, we have resisted asking for donations for this project, but we realize, we just cannot do it alone.

Now, we are reaching out to friends, family, and the community for help. Several angels have already stepped in, at various stages of our family’s journey, to help us in pursuit of justice. Some on the legal side, some in the medical and mental health profession.

Another angel is the talented producer, with a long list of credits, who agreed to help us produce this trailer. Their team lifted us up from the depths of hell and started to bring our story to life. We are ready to tell the rest of that story.

Our second objective with BROKEN, is to see the enactment of new legislation, concerning child forensic interviews, sex offender custody rights, and gaps in the myriad of sex offender databases. And to expose the lackadaisical attitudes, some law enforcement officials have, toward child sex abuse.

This cause is so much bigger than our small family. The justice system in this country, related to sex crimes against children, is BROKEN. It can’t be fixed with Band-Aids. We must ensure real and permanent change happens.
All donations go directly to production costs. If you can afford even $1, that gets us closer to our goal and helps us tell our story, so that we can help more children and families.
