20 Months for $20K

TLDR;

20 months in & my hair is as long as my wife’s.

Raising $20k for pancreatic cancer. Shaving my head for Wigs for Kids. Please help me reach my goal!

…so you want the full story?

Yes, my hair has recently reached epic lengths. I’ve received compliments from many but also offers (threats) from others to come and cut it themselves. Truth is, in March 2020, at the start of COVID lock-downs and virtual meetings, two co-workers and I decided to see who could go the longest without shaving or getting a haircut. I quickly learned that the length of my facial hair does not deliver exponentially positive results. However... my luscious locks were plentiful and I immediately knew I wanted to donate them towards a great cause.

I have set a very lofty goal, but I know we can do this together. I will have been officially growing my hair for 20 months as of October 2021.

With your help and generosity, when I hit my goal of $20,000 by the end of September, I will shave my head and donate all of my hair to Wigs for Kids. Additionally, all funds raised have a very specially planned purpose related to pancreatic cancer.

For over 30 years, Wigs For Kids has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or to their families. Wigs can cost a child and their family nearly $2,000 each. The effects of hair loss go deeper than just a change in a child’s outward appearance. Hair loss can erode a child’s self-confidence and limit them from experiencing a normal life. (Source: wigsforkids.org)

As far as the funds we raise, I’m both sad and proud that all will be directly donated in honor of three incredibly impactful individuals we’ve lost that deeply touched mine and Mindy’s lives. They include my wrestling coach, Cliff Ramos, our close family friend, Patsy Colson, and Mindy’s 3x college professor and mentor, Dr. Roberto “Bobby” Friedmann. 2/3 of the funds will go to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in equal amounts in honor of Cliff and Patsy. The other 1/3 will go toward the Bobby Friedmann Passport Terry Scholarship at The University of Georgia.

The Dr. Bobby Friedmann Passport Terry Scholarship helps to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent students from experiencing a global business opportunity such as study abroad or an international internship. Gifts made to support this effort will be matched 1:1 up to $50,000 in FY22 [started July 1st 2021] thanks to an anonymous match. Make your gift today and double the impact of supporting University of Georgia - Terry College of Business students who wish to study or work abroad.

In recent discussions about this fundraiser, Mindy and I have continued to learn of many others who have been closely impacted by cancer or the need for a wig. There are so many wonderful charitable causes, but I hope you will consider donating to help benefit pancreatic cancer research & to honor these three wonderful people, who we miss tremendously and whose impact on our lives and thousands of others will ripple across generations. I’m humbled to be able to provide a wig for a child in need and contribute in any small way to finding a cure for a terrible disease. Thank you all for your support with this - and for dealing with my man bun / hair flow this past year.
