My name is Susan Stringham, and along with a small group of friends and partners in Tanzania, are starting an orphanage/village sustainability project to stablize the dire conditions of orphans and vulnerable children in the Kiggongoni sub village of Mtu Wa Mbu, Tanzania and address causes and symptoms of poverty in the village. Our goal is to partner with the local village leaders to provide a loving home for the children, proper nutrition, health care, and education through adulthood, and partner with global development organizations to strengthen the community through education, microloans for starting small sustainable businesses that will sustain families and the orphanage long-term.
I thought I went to Tanzania the first time, to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. But I also saw a level of poverty there that is shocking, especially for orphans. I had to go back. I have spent time with 40 of the children in a village orphange that is in shambles due to financial mismanagement and corruption. Food is scarce, much of their clothing is tattered and in rags, there isn't money to buy medicine for the children with malaria. Most have lost their parents because of HIV/AIDS. I know them by name, have held them, cried with them, played kickball with them, and laughed and sung with them. They are wonderful little kids and they don't complain about what they don't have. But they deserve better. We want to give them a loving, stable home and future.
Please help me start my project. I need $5000 to cover the immediate need for rent and food. This will give us time to get our non profit organization in place and raise funds going forward. Each child is worth it. Our world is worth it. We all benefit in the end.
