2021 Annual Ixil Dog Rescue & Rehab Fund

Dear animal lovers,
The Maya Ixil region has a large stray dog population that negatively impacts the life of both animals and people in the region.
Dogs suffer from severe and extreme medical conditions as you can see here:

(other photos/videos are even harder for me to look at, much less share)

There is a group of local volunteers in the region that has made it their mission to DO something about this, for the sake of the dogs and humans alike, helping people learn to relate to animals in a kinder way and also taking these dogs under their wing quite literally and spaying/neutering as many dogs as possible to try to slow this cycle.
Here's the same dog seen above,
AFTER the group finishes their work:

The group this donation is raising funds for, "Peluditos Rescatados De Nebaj ":

A. Gets the dogs off the streets (where they are typically mistreated, abused and suffering from severe medical conditions).
B. Rehabilitates them by organizing temporary housing/stays with local host families.
C. Gets them spayed and neutered once they are well to reduce this continuous, long-term cycle (with the help of a vet in a large city, hours away - they arrange transport, etc).
And then, most importantly:
D. Finds them caring, adoptive permanent homes:

It's an insane amount of work for a few dedicated locals who also shoulder the majority of the financial burden and have full-time jobs/responsibilities to boot.
Some of the main volunteers:

This is why, Ixil Collective  will be hosting an annual drive each year to help fund this group's operations and scale their impact.

The goal of this annual fundraiser is to:
1. Fund ONE emergency  spaying/neutering per month ($50/month). Example 1  / Example 2
2. Fund TWO temporary "foster homes" to rehabilitate stray dogs with local families ($120/month) - see photo below for an example, and this video
3. Provide additional funds to cover emergency meds, food, and other necessities for foster dogs, especially those with extreme medical conditions. ($500/month)
4. Fund TWO  annual local spay/neuter clinics for 100 strays ($1900/year).Click here & scroll right for photos from the most recent clinic.
=$9,940/year  =  ~200 strays positively impacted ($50/stray/year)

Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated and you can follow the impact, and see previous success stories (all in Spanish) on the group's Facebook page .

Some examples of how even a little can go a long way:
$15 = food for 10 street dogs for 1 week
$30 = emergency medication to rehabilitate strays with extreme medical conditions
$50 = 1 spay/neuter operation, including trasport to/from the nearest vet who is part of the project (a four-ish hour drive each way).
$60 = funds one mobile home to rehabilitate a dog, like the one seen here:

The funds above are SUPPLEMENTAL to what the group currently spends from their own salaries to do all this work themselves. This does not represent the full operating cost of the project, but is Ixil Collective's way of trying to expand the impact.
