2020 - Solomon Islands Kids Educational Resources

The Solomon Islands is one of the poorest of the Global South (developing) Countries in the world. Education in the Solomon Islands is not compulsory and only 60 percent of school-age children have access to primary education, often with very little resources.
Gender inequality and domestic violence are extremely prevalent in Solomon Islands also, impacting the community through discriminatory feeding patterns, violence against women, lack of decision-making power, unfair divisions of work and lack of education opportunities.
We are a group of 30 ACU student teachers who are travelling to the Solomon Islands in June 2020 for 4 weeks. We are going to complete a teaching placement as part of an elective unit.
We are raising money to help provide much needed funds and resources to donate to Primary Schools. These funds will help improve the school buildings and community infrastructure.
St Vincent’s de Paul Primary School is a recently developed school, which was set up for orphans and abandoned children.
Bishop Epalle Primary School is a developed school but is still in need of more resources to improve teaching and learning.
The school buildings are still in the process of being built with many lessons still taught out in the open. Resources are minimal, making it very difficult for teachers to teach and for students to learn. Both of these schools have limited resources and infrastructure, which is why we are keen to help. At both schools, the average class size ranges from 30 - 90 students.
The money we raise will also be spent in the Solomon Islands buying resources such as paper, writing books, pens and grey lead pencils and of course providing much needed funds to the continued development of school buildings and community resources.
It only takes 500 people to donate $30 each to achieve our target of $15,000 and make a difference.
