2020 Roger Rees Awards

Tax deductible
Welcome to The Roger Rees Awards GoFundMe Page! On behalf of the Broadway Education Alliance, a New York based 501.c3 not-for-profit organization and fiscal sponsor of The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance, we are honored to have you here and share more information about our mission: to raise awareness of the value of arts education in schools by recognizing the outstanding work and talent of teachers and students in high schools across the Greater New York Metro area.

The Roger Rees Awards not only celebrates the importance of musical theatre in schools, but also contracts many artists and theatre professionals that bring the production to life. With our upcoming online awards ceremony and showcase on Monday, June 1, 2020, we humbly request your support of this program that has become an important and distinguished recognition for the high school performers in the region. Despite these difficult times, we are committed to uplifting the students who have missed out on many opportunities this spring.

Contributions of any size will help make this vision and mission a reality, and we hope you will join in our crusade to empower, inspire, and most importantly, promote acceptance and pride in the arts with the youth of today, tomorrow, and beyond.

With great thanks,

The Roger Rees Awards Team

ABOUT THE ROGER REES AWARDS

Over the past ten years, The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance (previously called the Gershwin Awards) has celebrated high school students across the Greater New York Metro area for outstanding performances and achievements in the arts. The growing portfolio of award categories and scholarships are designed to recognize excellence in theatre roles both on and off stage. All public and private high schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, Orange County, Rockland County, and Westchester County that present an officially licensed school edition of a National High School Musical Theatre Awards® approved Broadway musical are invited to register for participation each academic year.

The Roger Rees Awards is presented by Disney Theatrical Group and the Broadway Education Alliance in association with Camp Broadway® LLC who serves as the program administrator and showcase producer. It is currently the only student award in the Greater New York Metro area that recognizes distinction in student performance and outstanding achievement in high school musical theatre programs.  The Roger Rees Awards is the Greater New York Regional Award program of The Broadway League Foundation’s, The Jimmy Awards®, aka The National High School Musical Theatre Awards®.

UPCOMING ROGER REES AWARDS ONLINE PRESENTATION

Due to the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, educational systems and businesses were blindsided by closures and cancellations. Students had many special moments taken away from them and spring musical theatre productions were no exception. As a result, the completion of adjudication of high school performances and the onstage presentation of The Roger Rees Awards Showcase had become impossible. With a #NYStrong attitude, the Roger Rees Awards team at Camp Broadway and partners, developed a plan to preserve the spirit of the program and adapt the 2020 presentation into an online celebration of high school musical theatre.
