2019-2020 Tap! at Int'l HS@ Prospect Heights

Help us to expand our tap program! Following a successful inaugural year, the Int'l HS@ Prospect Heights is continuing to build our tap program in 2019-2020. This year, in addition to the after school tap club, we have added a tap class for seniors during the school day. I'm again asking for your help to raise money for our program. This year's donations will go toward shoes ($50/pair) for students. Additionally, I would like to take students to see a tap performance ($35/ticket) and bring in guest teaching artists. My goal is to raise $1000 by December 1. (This would support taking twenty students to see a show, plus an additional six pairs of shoes.)
This year my goals are:
1. to expand our arts programming, which is challenging in a small school
2. to share my love of tap!
3. to build on the incredible talents and rhythmic knowledge that my students bring with them from all over the world
4. to pilot offering tap as an interdisciplinary arts course; we will explores the history of the art form, how it connects to many of the social justice issues that students already study, and the connection between tap and music, literacy, math, and politics.
The International HS @ Prospect Heights is a small school that serves recently arrived immigrant English Language Learners. Our students come from over 20 countries and represent even more cultures and languages. We teach through collaborative, project-based instruction that integrates language learning opportunities throughout the day, and we strive to support our students in becoming engaged and empowered members of society. They are an extraordinary group of young people.
