Hello everyone,
My name is Kiyanna Elliott and I've been selected to be Contestant #1 for the Iota Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi's 2019 Miss Black University of Texas Pageant at The University of Texas at Austin. In order to participate, I have to raise money for my pageant fees. The fee would go towards the outfits, beauty products, props, and equipment for the competition. The pageant will be held on April 28th.
As a contestant, you must choose a platform for an issue that you're passionate about. The platform I've chosen is Alzheimer's Disease. My paternal grandmother suffered and passed away from it a few years ago, and just recently, in December 2018, my maternal grandmother passed away from it as well. The disease is more prevalent among African Americans, and currently there are only treatments to slow the effects, but no cure. I want to be able to use my expertise in performance art to create a devised theater production with Alzheimer's as the central theme and use the money raised from the shows to donate to research to find a cure.
I would greatly appreciate any donations towards my pageant and platform as I want to honor my grandmothers' memory.
