2019 Delfino Muñoz/Proyecto Saber Scholarship

It’s that time of year again when we look to our community and graduates to put in practice what Proyecto Saber has taught, that community is family. We are raising funds for a scholarship that will go to our seniors in our community/familia. Our wonderful young high school Seniors are applying to colleges and vocational programs all over. They are thinking about what fields they want to study and what mark they will make on our world. They are also beginning to realize how expensive college or post- secondary education is. Most of our Seniors are working with the college readiness counselor from El Centro de la Raza to apply for scholarships. Sadly, most of the real money is highly competitive and will not go to our students. This scholarship is only for our Proyecto Saber students.

The Delfino Muñoz Proyecto Saber Scholarship had over 100 donors, and has awarded more than $13000 in financial assistance to fourteen students to continue their education past high school. We have students at the University of Washington, Western Washington University, South Seattle College and Highline Community College. This scholarship delivers much more than this small amount of financial assistance, it delivers a message that our community believes in the future potential of these beautiful young people and is willing to support them. The scholarship committee, is staying connected to our students through a mentorship program designed to help students with the transition from high school to college. Not only will we do everything to see that these students are successful, but it is the Committee’s sincere hope, that they will bring those skills and role modeling back to our community.

We are just starting, (this is the 4th year.) We’ve gone from giving $3000 the first year to $6000 last year. All of the money has been donated by you, and most in small amounts from $10-$100 but it has made a real difference. This year we hope to raise our scholarships up to $2000. Maybe someday we can even help pay the majority of the cost. Not one of our students should not get an education because they can’t afford it.

Your generosity will help keep this scholarship grow. Please give what you can.
