2019 Volunteer Trip: South Africa
Donation protected
To My Friends and Family,
I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about my upcoming trip to the rural township of Kurland Village in South Africa. Your support means the world to me!
This will be my second trip to Kurland Village and with the help from many of you back in 2011, I was able to assist in renovating a safe house for the young kids of Kurland. From building solar water heaters, to painting walls, we worked around the clock to complete as much as possible. Seeing the smiles on those children’s faces made every moment worth it. I can truly say that it has been the greatest reward and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of all of you. Although the to-do list might be different in 2019, the goal remains the same: lend a helping hand to those in need.
Due to the remoteness of Kurland, there is a high incidence of unemployment, therefore leading to problems with alcoholism, HIV and domestic violence.
On February 25th, for a week, myself along with my two best friends, Christian and Sarah, plus 18 other volunteers from The Sound of a Smile Program, will set out to complete a volunteer trip that will help improve the lives of those who call Kurland Village home.
Last year, the group was able to refurbish an entire preschool, two playgrounds and a public sports facility. This year, we will be tackling several ongoing building and renovation projects around the village. Aside from physical labor, we’ll be hosting afternoon sessions with the children. The objective is to interact and help encourage healthy living and continued educational growth across all ages. Of course, we’ll squeeze in a game of soccer or two!
I created this GoFundMe page in hopes to help relieve some of the expenses for the upcoming trip. Your donation will help finance the following: Hiring local Kurland Tradesmen to assist in large scale repairs, equipment (hand tools, blades, safety wear, etc.), materials (lumbar, nails, paint, etc.), volunteer transportation & accommodation, as well as shipping costs for clothing and school supplies.
Donations of ANY size are more than appreciated. Thank YOU for giving us this opportunity to help change the lives of some extremely deserving people 8,000 miles away!
