2018 #TakeCareOfNashville #Feed500

Dear Nashville Neighbor,

Hunger is a day-to-day reality for many folks living in the Nashville area. We understand as Christians we are called to “love thy neighbor”, but we often get caught up in our own hectic lives and forget how a little help from us could have a big impact on someone else. With so many of us beyond blessed with everything we need, how could we pay our blessings forward and make an impact in our community? This is exactly why we started #TakeCareOfNashville and the #Feed500.

The #Feed500 is an opportunity to give back to our community. It is a movement to physically feed our neighbors in need, while spiritually feeding our community.

Since starting our work in 2016, we have fed approximately 1,300 people through the two annual events we’ve hosted. In partnership with other organizations such as From Your Father, Room In The Inn, Erika’s Safe Place, and a host of others, we have been able to exceed our goals for each event.

Great things happen when a community comes together for a common goal. Our common goal is simple- to help others- by providing food to those who are hungry as well as orchestrating community “come together” events.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to lending a hand. With the success of the last two years under our belts, we have joined forces with Room in the Inn and have expanded our program to multiple initiatives this year. As with any organization, sponsorship is always welcomed and very much appreciated so that we have the means to reach a broader range of those in need. We are excited to offer multiple chances for people to help our community, along with various ways to make the maximum impact.

Our three phases for 2018-19 are:

 ·         October 20th: We are grateful for the opportunity to assist Room In The Inn and Operation Stand Down Tennessee serve our homeless veterans (approximately 300 people). Each person will receive breakfast, a hot lunch, and a sack of goodies to take back to their camps at the end of the day.

 ·         Week After Christmas (exact date TBD): The Christmas- New Year week is filled with fun, family time, worship, and a break from work for most of us. It is also the time of year when the weather gets more extreme, people are recovering from their holiday expenditures, and the homeless are severely underserved. Room In The Inn, along with Luke 14:12, step in to make sure that those in need feel the love and holiday spirit by gearing up their meal program. The #Feed500 will step in to help prepare and serve meals for more than 300 people this day.

·         February 16, 2019 (target date): Love Thy Neighbor/ 3rd Annual #Feed500: For the 3rd year in a row, we will serve lunch to as many people in need as possible. As in past years, we will provide a meal for everyone in the various shelters across the Nashville area, including but not limited to, Room In The Inn, Nashville Rescue Mission, and Loaves and Fishes, along with handing out meals to those without a temporary or permanent home. With over 500 served the first year, and 759 served in 2017, we are anticipating being able to reach 1,000 people this time.

As we move forward and our events get bigger and better each year, our needs grow. Along this journey, just as we are helping our neighbors, we also will require help in our mission. Helping our community is a group effort, so anything and everything is greatly appreciated as we work towards feeding those in our community that are less fortunate. If you're unable to contribute financially, there is always an open-arms welcome for volunteers the day of the event to distribute lunches. For those who aren't able or available to distribute lunches, one of the most invaluable forms of support is to share this great opportunity of community building with friends and family. As we prepare to enter a season of giving thanks for all that we have, let's also take the opportunity to give to those in need.

We began our journey with the full intention of changing our community, and positively affecting lives surrounding us. With each step forward, we not only accomplish our goals, but also change a little of ourselves along the way. In closing, we ask that you lend a helping hand, so that in turn we will pay it forward and feed it right back into our community. We simply want to be part of the solution!

 Sincerely,

Nicole Pahle, Director of #TakeCareOfNashville
