2018 Costa Rica Coffee Families

This medical mission trip was created by myself (Dr. Cynthia Elliott) and my husband (Todd Elliott) to care for immigrant coffee pickers (and their families) who work in the farms of Santa Elena Coffee in Costa Rica. They travel from Panam and Nicaragua to hand pick coffee each season. They have very little in the way of belongings and none of them have health care or dental care.
We travel to the farm in January which is in the middle of the coffee picking season. We are able to care for many families immediate medical needs, including infections, illness, and even minor dental extractions for painful broken/rotten teeth. We have been able to help nearly 300 people each time we go. We hope to do the same and more this January 2018. We also take clothing and some dental care supplies that are given out during the medical clinics.
I am a family practice provider in Tucson, AZ. I care for patients of all ages, male and female, nearly 3,200 people. I close my practice for the time that I am in Costa Rica for this medical trip becasue it is so important and does make a difference in these families lives. My husband (Todd) is in vending and coffee services, which is how we learned about this group of people and their medical needs.
We have several supporters who are in the coffee and vending business who are doing what they can to support this trip and give back to the coffee picking community. The team members are all volunteers. They are in various careers: medicine, coffee and vending, educators, students, full time ministry, etc. They pay for their own travel, hotel, food, and give their time to help care for this group of people.
We need all the financial help we can get in order to have money to purchase medications and supplies specific to caring for these hard working, wonderful people. Please donate to this cause and know that every dollar you give does make a difference! We need your help!
