2017 Annual Campaign

Donation protected
Foci MCGA is launching our 2017 Annual Giving Campaign. This giving campaign directly supports Foci’s mission to engage the Minnesota community in the study and appreciation of the glass arts while expanding the potential of the medium through our education, exhibition, outreach, and artist support programing.
Thanks to the generosity of our 2016 supporters we fufilled our mission by:

-Giving glassblowing demonstrations to over 25,000 people at our home studio and through our mobile glassblowing studio.
-Serving a membership of 170 artists and enthusiasts.
-Teaching 61 curriculum classes to 270 students.
-Providing 1,300 hours of studio rental to our members
-Touching the lives of 530 people who discovered the magic of glass by making a paperweight or tumbler in our “Glass Discovery” experience.
-Teaching six master glasses.

In 2017, we have been busy making many improvements in the studio and to our staff. Our talented technical staff have worked diligently to improve the studio for our artists and students with two new annealers, a new pipe warmer, a new pipe cooler, two kiln rebuilds, and a new pick up box. The education staff have doubled our kid’s camps and have brought in talented and exciting artists such as John Miller, Jason Chakravarty, and Claire Kelly who taught advanced glass classes and demonstrations.

However, the improvements to the physical studio are not the only things keeping us busy. Behind the scenes we have been working very hard to grow  our staff, develop our board of directors, expand our scholarship program, grow our relationships with granting agencies, and continue to strengthen our relationships with other supporting organizations in the area. We are pleased that Chad Holliday joined the staff this June as Director of Studio Operations.  Chad will be focusing much of his time on program development and studio growth. This important staff addition will allow Foci to create some exciting change.

In the remainder of 2017 we are planning to replace our electric furnace, host an exhibition for Minnesota State Arts Board grant recipient artist Jeff Stenbom, host a demonstration by Beth Lipman, relaunch the Foci Halloween Bash, and lay the groundwork for an Annual Contemporary Glass Show to take place in May of 2018.

Individual contributions are crucial to advancing the mission of Foci. This year, we hope to raise $45K by the end of the fiscal year on December 31, 2017.  We invite you to share our vision of a strong and vibrant glass art community by increasing your annual donation or giving for the very first time.  Please join our unique community of artists and supporters and help us spread the word about the glass arts in Minnesota!
