2017 Xterra World Championship

Hello friends, past supporters, and hopefuls!

In 2015 I surprisingly qualified for Xterra World Championships by competing at the Xterra West Championships in Henderson, Nevada; finishing the event with a third place podium position. With some nagging injuries in 2016 I was forced to take the year off which allowed me to heal, recharge, and have some fun with my fitness and “training” regimen. I decided in the late fall of 2016 to make another concentrated effort to qualify for Xterra World Championships (October 2017). As many do, I could have paid my way into the event; not my style, I wanted to earn my way there. So the journey began January 1, 2017.

Shaping my 2017 season, I decided to take a similar approach to 2015. In June, I raced Coeur d'Alene Half Ironman (70.3) as my first race to kick off the season and test my fitness from the first six months of training. This approach would set me up with great long course fitness providing an amazing foundation to then sharpen down to the speed needed for Olympic distance off-road triathlon of Xterra. My race was a success, finishing fourth in my bracket of 200. Three weeks later, I traveled to the ultra-competitive Xterra Beaver Creek (Colorado), with goals of a top five podium spot and sub 2:45:00 performance. I met both my goals finishing fourth with a 2:42:00 finish time.

My invitation arrived three weeks later; “You’re invited to 2017 Xterra World Championships, October 29, 2017, Maui!” With this news, I was able to skip Portland Xterra but did go to the site of my first triathlon in McCall, Idaho where I successfully won my age bracket and finished fifth overall. In a few weeks I’ll head to Snowbasin, Utah for the Xterra US Championships. This will be my final race where the competition and course are always top notch. After a brief recovery from Snowbasin I’ll launch into a final training cycle leading up to the Xterra World Championships.

Competing in Xterra World Championships is an undertaking. If you are going to travel to a remote island with swim, bike and run gear in tote one must plan and train to have the best performance on that given day. For myself, I have and will continue to put everything I have into my training so I can walk away knowing I did everything I could to perform at my best. This requires dedication and focus. It also requires support from my friends and loved ones whom believe in me and believe in the positive energy sport and competition can bring out in us.

I formed this Go Fund Me campaign to simply ask for assistance in any amount to help me defray the costs of traveling and competing on Maui. Any amount given helps me to achieve my goal of personal excellence in individual sport. At the same time, my efforts show others that anything is possible regardless of age, life and work commitments as long as you have the support of friends and loved ones. I thank you in advance for reading my story and donating to my 2017 goal!
