On January 27th Keith had a serious accident while snowboarding in Mammoth.  The injuries were severe enough that two surgeries were required over the span 24 hours.  During the first procedure the surgeon took measures to alleviate intense swelling in Keith's leg as there was concern that the blood supply to the lower leg was being impaired which could have led to further, more critical complications.

In the second surgery two plates and eleven pins were put in place to reconstruct Keith's lower leg.  For those of us who were with him on the mountain and in the hospital, the days that followed the accident were filled with incredible concern and relief.

Because two surgeries were required, Keith will be faced with substantial medical bills, and we have not yet included the ongoing costs of orthopedic care and the months of physical therapy during which he will relearn how to use his leg.

As a relatively new member of the Trader Joe's Team in Goleta, CA, Keith was just two weeks shy of qualifying for health insurance.  While we are working with the hospital and other organizations to reduce his bills, they will still be daunting, and for this reason he is looking to his friends and community to help him as he continues heal and to provide for his daughter Genevieve.

All of your generous donations will be used exclusively for medical expenses.  The initial goal is to raise $10,000, though the bills will likely be many times that.  In the event that the money raised is more than the ultimate total of the bills, the remainder will be donated to charity.

Thank you for you support of Keith and his family over the coming months!
