New Water Park at Adams Playlot

Tax deductible
Update 3/16/2018

We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, which has encouraged us, ahead of time, to consider a Phase 2 plan for enhancements.

Any additional money raised over our initial Go Fund Me goal will go toward a Phase 2. For example, if we raised $30,000, a phase 2 could add an additional water feature like a water table; a very popular option! Phase 2 plans also include some much-needed upgrades and maintenance within the park, making it a more pleasant and safer place for our children to enjoy.

All donors over $150 will be honored with their family name on a sign, with donors over $1000 receiving special recognition.

Thank you very much for your contributions to date. Your generosity confirms the special place that Adams Park has within our community.

$20,000 for an Amazing New Water Park

The Chicago Park District has announced that they will be building an exciting NEW Water Park at Adams Playlot.

The old, beloved water park first opened in 1998 thanks to a large posthumous gift to the Chicago Park District from Dorothy Melamerson. However, over time, the soft surface has completely degraded after being replaced several times. This equipment is no longer made, nor does it comply with current safety rules. The park district will be decommissioning these type of water parks city wide.

In its place, The Park District will provide a $100,000+ renovation, featuring a water park with various sprayers, misters and other fun items. The Adams Park Advisory Committee, after a public meeting, has requested enhanced nautical themed features to make the new Adams Water Park as special as the old one.
The added features cost $40,000. Alderman Smith has generously agreed to provide a 1:1 match for every dollar we raise, so we must raise $20,000 and welcome all donations.

Here’s your chance to “adopt” the features of our new park.  Supporter levels are listed to the right with images of features in UPDATES section on this page.

Mega Soaker: $5,000 level - 3 donors needed
Gather ‘round as the Mega Soaker fills and then dumps 40 gallons of water on everyone. The fun design creates a spectacular feature. An instant crowd favorite.
This feature will ONLY be at Adams Water Park.

Sail Away: $1,000 level - 3 donors needed
Brave the high seas with Sail Away! Featuring two sails, a curtain of spray, as well as a side spray, the 13’ foot tall Sail Away evokes imagination and takes water players on a high seas adventure.

Ogopogo: $750 – 5 donors needed
A mythical sea creature rises from the sea to give water players an epic splash! The 9’ foot tall Ogopogo sparks imagination and adventure, while spraying water from its spiked tail, arched body and mouth.

Umbrella: $500 – 5 donors needed
Chill out under a giant beach umbrella! The 9’ foot tall Rain Cap umbrella shades water players from the sun while cooling them off with its gentle shower.

Fishin’ Pole: $250 – 10 donors needed
Find your catch of the day on the Fishin’ Pole! This playful arching 11’ high feature lures water players with its dangling fish while spraying them from its multiple nozzles.

Tots: $150 – 20 donors needed
Two Fun-Brellas will feature a unique laminar water effect that fascinates curious minds. Water players love to run fingers through or huddle under the Fun-Brella’s 3’ high shield of water. Great for the youngest children.

Work is scheduled to begin April 1, 2018 to be ready for opening in June. To start construction on time and be ready for the summer season, we need your tax-deductible donations by April 1. Donations will be processed through the Adams Park Advisory Council, a 501(c)3 not for profit, EIN 36-3777191.

All donors adopting a feature with a donation of $150 or more will be recognized on a sign displayed in the park, with special recognition for donations of over $1000.  Post your name preference for the sign in the comments.
