Chris Hogan Medical Fund

Chris Hogan received the words he never thought he would hear at 36 years old.  On October 15th of 2012 the doctor told him, "You have Leukemia."

Some of you probably know Chris. You might not know that you know him, but you probably have seen Chris on television. Chris was in a commercial lately for Positive Changes in Boise telling his story about how he lost a bunch of weight. There is a picture of him that they show during that commercial sitting on a couch, reading a book, carrying a lot of extra weight before he started Positive Changes.

He lost over 100 pounds using that program and was just starting to get his life in order when he found out that he had cancer. He was running at least 6 miles every other day. He was eating right and doing all the right things. Chris always carries a positive attitude around and rubs off on everyone he talks to or meets. He is the type of guy that you miss when they are not around. He is the type of guy that you wonder, "Why him?"

A few days before Chris found out he had cancer, he went to the doctor with some pains that were causing issues with running. The doctor did some tests and concluded that Chris had an infection. The doctor was a little worried, so he ran a few blood tests that day. The doctor called him back in for some more tests the following Monday because some came back indicating some possible "issues" in the blood. They did some more blood tests and the next day, Chris was admitted to the MSTI for more testing. During this, they did a bone marrow test which caused Chris some excruciating pain due to the infection running through his body.

Within the week, Chris underwent significant chemotherapy in order to prevent the spread of AML, a very severe case of Leukemia with a bad history of killing people in the first 4 -6 months of having it. Chris was in the hospital for about 4 weeks and towards the end of those 4 weeks, he was told that he would not be able to return to work. They needed to keep doing chemotherapy on him over the next 6 months which would take his white blood cell levels down to where he could easily get infections or sickness because his body would not be able to fight it off. His regimen would be to do chemo for about a week, recover, then back to chemo again. It is a hard fight and Chris is still doing it with a positive attitude about everything.

Chris has a mother that lives with him that relies on his income due to a heart attack this last year. She had something called a "Widowmaker" and survived. She still has issues from the complications of the heart attack and is recovering. He also has a disabled sister with a daughter that lives with him and relies on him.  Chris is also going to have some significant hospital bills to pay once he is done with everything.

Chris is the main bread winner for his family and with his mortgage, groceries, utilities, gas, etc: for 4 people, the disability does not cover all of his costs. Chris is a great guy and a great friend. He would give his friends anything he could give them if he had it. Now he needs our help. It isn't for himself that he is asking for the help, he is asking for the help for the people that rely on him. Please, if you can give any money, we are just trying to offset his bills so he can focus on recovery and getting better so it alleviates his stress. Thanks for reading and please share this if you can. Please send positive thoughts his way.
