Orphanage in Guatemala

Hola!

 As some of you may know, I am heading to Central America to do some exploring, soul searching and to volunteer at an orphanage in Guatemala.   I will be volunteering through an organization called International Volunteer HQ for 1 week (possibly 2 if financially able). Approximately 250 children are located at this orphanage who are affected with poor home life, minor schooling and in some cases, abuse. My job at the orphanage will be to organize games and activities, educate children regarding health and hygiene, assisting with homework, teaching English and most importantly, being a friend and a mentor.

 I am so grateful for all the support, guidance and love that I have received from my parents. I was able to grow and learn in such a loving environment. I was provided with nourishing food to keep me healthy, a warm bed to sleep in, fun family vacations, years of dance lessons and emotional and financial support throughout 4 years of university. I can only imagine what it would be like to be a child that is cold, hungry and in need of love and attention.  My intention is to pass on the love and attention that I have received as a child to children that need it most.

I've always known that I wanted to help care for people. It wasn't until I started to work in the rehabilitation department of the University of Alberta's Burn Treatment and Intensive Care Unit's that I realized the magnitude of passion and eagerness I have for helping people. I know that I am a healer and my life goal is to aid in healing the mental, physical and spiritual areas of a person's life. I have the power to light up someone's life and this is how you can help me do it!
