Pinot's Surgery Fund

As many of you have heard, just as we arrived in Phoenix to visit my mom on Thursday, our Labradoodle Pinot was hit by a car and critically injured. Many people wanted to know what happened and how they could help.
Sadly, the driver who hit Pinot could not be bothered to even stop and just drove away. Fortunately there were several witnesses who did stop. Pinot was taken to Dr. Black at Clearview Veterinary Hospital and things did not look good. They told us Pinot's hip socket was shattered and that they did not have the skills to repair it. Dr. Black contacted Seattle Veterinary Specialties (SVS) in Kirkland and asked them to view the x-rays and see if it was something they could handle. The said they might but they would need to examine him themselves and that the procedure could cost around $4,000-$6,000. That was an overwhelming amount but we decided to go ahead and at least have them examine him to know for sure. Our dear friend Kevin Poole left work and took Pinot to SVS. After the surgical team assessed him, there was good news and bad news. The good news was that he did not appear to have any severe head or internal organ damage. The bad news was that because the extent of injury to his hip and left ankle, they estimated it would cost $10,000 to $13,000 to save him. This was way beyond what we could manage and we had to make the very tough decision to say goodbye to our sweet boy. We let SVS know and cried knowing we wouldn't even be able to say goodbye to our loving goofy pup.

Shortly after that we received several calls from friends and family offering to help raise funds for his care. We also received a call from the surgeon, she said it would be such a shame to put down an otherwise healthy animal. With hope for some support, we called SVS right back and authorized the procedures. After 5 hours in surgery Pinot is doing really well, but he has a long recovery ahead of him. Pets can bring such joy and love to a family. Pinot certainly has for ours and we are very grateful to be able to come home and see him again. We are so humbled and honored to have such wonderful and generous friends and family. We really do appreciate any help you can offer.
