Be a Super-Stuber-Supporter

We know Bob and Jan Stuber through RC Boat racing.  You know the saying,"People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.  When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do." I have figured out the reason, and it is help them get a wider-support system in their time of need. We learned of Jan's life-altering aneurysms when Bob first posted it on Facebook back in Sept.  We wanted to help but we weren't exactly sure what we could do.  We've just learned recently that the Stubers really are in dire-straits due to medical bills, cost of medications, lack of insurance, and their limited income.  Please read below what was written by Bob Stuber, Jan's husband, to me.  Then take a deep breath.  Look around you.  Count your blessings.  And consider being a part of their expanded support system.

Thank you. - Chelsea & Brian Blazer

On Sept 12th, 2012, life as Jan and I knew it changed forever. When I came home that day, Jan was sitting on the stairs about 1/3 of the way up, her eyes were open but she was just groaning. I thought she has the flu bad, I tried for 10 minutes to get her up but she wasn't responding.  I called 911. We took her to Akron City Hospital. After 3 CAT Scans they found Jan had suffered 2 aneurysms, 1 that had actually burst. Once the situation was discovered, the Head of the Neurology Department at City informed us she needed emergency brain surgery (Aneurysm Repair).  After the first 4-hour surgery, the doctor told us that they were giving her only 15%-20% chance of surviving the next 48 hours. During that surgery she suffered a stroke and they only operated on the one that burst due to the risks.  After 48 hours they went back in and repaired the 2nd vessel.  After the surgeries, Jan spent 38 days in the Neurology ICU, and then was transferred to Edwin Shaw Rehab facility for another 30 days.

Jan is the strongest women I know. She is my best friend and my beautiful wife of 36 wonderful years.  And she loves being a Grandmother. I always knew Jan was strong and a ROCK, but I didn't know just how much until she had her aneurysm. She has endured so much in life. Starting as a kid from a divorced family, sharing our home with my ill mother as a newlywed, the loss of her mother a week after our son was born, dealing with my debilitating Encephalitis, Lisa's (our daughter's) horrible car accident that kept her in Children's Burn Unit for 6 months, and my open-heart surgery.  Not once did Jan leave our sides.  Ever.  She was our rock. And Jan is the kind of person who could light up a room with her smile and laughter.  She has a heart of gold.  Solid gold.

Jan is not back to where she was, and probably never will be.  She needs constant care.  She often gets debilitating headaches.  She needs lots of medications.  She still does physical therapy and speech therapy 2 or 3 days a week.  I need to take her to see her doctors, but they won't let us in unless we pay up-front due to our lack of medical insurance.  So she has not been getting the care that she needs and deserves as often as she should.

As far as our financial situation, it's dire. Jan lost her job of 15 years just a month before her aneurysm, so there was/is no health insurance. To-date the total of the hospital and surgery bills, surgeon bills, Edwin Shaw Rehab bills, plus a life-flight, several ambulances, and 4 other dr.'s the costs tally up to approximately $750,000.00. Right now were trying to make it on my disability checks and it doesn't even cover our monthly bills let alone the cost of food, utilities, car, gas etc.  We are looking at having things shut-off and repossessed even after I've cut every expense I can, including some of my medications.  We've applied for Disability and Medicaid, but it is taking so long. I'm a very proud man, but that ship has sailed and I need help. WE need help.  Jan deserves nothing but the best. I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR HER.  I HAVE to be HER ROCK. Any help at all would be huge, and EXTREMELY appreciated.  Thank you SO very much.  - Bob
