Feeding & Teaching in Lolera, Tanzania:

I learned of the children of Lolera, Tanzania, poor and mal-nourished and with no school. And I learned of this remarkable woman, a mother of three, Nancy Wa Vincent, who left her own paid teaching position to travel to Lolera 2 hours each way, opened a school to serve 125 children from pre-school through 7th grade, and does this all as a volunteer. In addition to her school, she teaches the women to knit items to sell at market, educates about health and childcare, and is working hard to change the entrenched custom of female genital mutilation.
Nancy can't do this by herself. She needs a larger community to help support her dream of lifting this younger generation out of poverty. Always - always - she needs food. But I will let her own words tell the story.
"Our country is a developing country where most part of it is not developed, and people aren't educated; where war and HIV AIDS took lives of some parents; where poverty still exists and at a high level; where children have no one to talk to or to listen to them, where food is scarce; where customs and traditions have priority and where the future is bleak for the children. Now, I've a school in a village where most children are orphans and others from needy families. I offer them education, food, fruits and porridge, and this helps a lot because some come without taking breakfast, some skip meals at their homes so the food we offer at school becomes their only hope and makes them feel loved. Sometimes I offer them donated clothes and shoes and they feel so happy, special and loved. So if I don't stand for them, we shall have the same poor generation year after years and that will pain me a lot. My school motto goes: 'Eradicating Poverty through Education.' I'm just trying to help them move from the poverty way of living to having a better life in the near future. So please join me and let's help these angels reach their future dreams."
