Phoenix AZ Restaurant Worker COVID-19 Relief Fund

We are all coming to terms with the COVID-19 coronavirus health crisis that is spreading across the world as a global pandemic. While our communities are prioritizing controlling the spread of the virus and concentrating on caring for those infected, the decision to implement social distancing measures by closing restaurants and bars creates a major economic challenge for those whose careers are working in the hospitality business. While this is clearly the right health decision for our community at large, some individuals in our community are experiencing an economic catastrophe as a result of these measures.
Of course, people can apply for unemployment benefits, but this isn't always enough to cover all their expenses and some may face even bigger challenges if their family members become ill with the COVID-19 virus. Those who are laid off may have to buy into COBRA benefits that can come at a cost that won't be even remotely covered by full or part time unemployment benefits alone.
About me: my name is Brian McCarson and I am a proud resident of Arizona for the last few decades and father of 3 daughters all born in the East Valley of Phoenix. My wife and I currently reside in South Tempe and we love the vibrant and growing restaurant and bar scene here. I want to do my part to help the wonderful people who make this community great but are having to make difficult choices about paying for rent, health insurance or food for their children while they are temporarily out of work. I started this fund after seeing a similar fund in the Seattle, WA community. Kudos to Jessica Tousignant and Candace Whitney-Morris for their heartfelt and compassionate efforts in Seattle that inspired me to begin a similar campaign in Tempe, AZ for the entire Phoenix area and the East Valley.
Every cent you donate thru gofundme goes directly into the hands of those who need it in the Phoenix area and the East Valley . No admin or overhead costs will be deducted from your donation. To help prioritize those who are most impacted, I have a brief and confidential questionnaire that individuals can complete to make sure those most at-risk get the help they need. I will prioritize those in our community who are either disabled or have compromised immune systems or otherwise are most at-risk from COVID19. Those who apply will be asked to also sign up for unemployment coverage. I will post weekly updates on the number of people who benefit from your generous donations...all donor and recipient information will be kept anonymous of course.
