Help Support Nan and Jin Moon

I am writing on behalf of myself (Jacob) and my sister Ally. Many of you saw the Facebook post I made last weekend regarding the burglary my mother was a victim of. The impact of this event has taken a great toll on my mother financially, but even more so emotionally; she feels violated and unsafe in her own home. We promised our mother that we wouldn’t reveal the details of what she lost to anyone. However, we can share that she lost a significant amount of her savings and retirement. She has been running restaurants with my stepfather for almost 2 decades, and they were preparing to step away and retire this summer. Because of the burglary, they cannot afford to retire and now must continue working for the foreseeable future. If you have owned a restaurant before, you know how exhausting it is. To put this into context, for those who don’t have this experience, my mom and stepdad work 7 days a week and average at a minimum 90 hours a week. My mom is almost 60 years old and my stepdad is over 60, and both are devastated with this turn of events. My mother would never ask us to post something like this on her behalf. She has gone most of her life relying on herself, and as a result often feels alone. She has never sought after or taken a ‘hand-out’ in her life. She has devoted herself to serving and uplifting others. Anyone who knows her has felt of her sweet demeanor, her kindness, and her ability to make anyone feel valued. Those who haven't experienced this first hand have heard of her goodness through her children. She is truly the reason my sister and I are the people we are today. The reason we are starting this fund for my mother is not to try to recoup what she has lost. That would be unreasonable. We want to show my mother that she is loved, and has a community of friends and family that are here for her and support her. She needs to feel this. She is terrified and shaken to the core right now. She needs to know she is not alone. Any contribution is valued and greatly appreciated. Every contribution made is an effort to show my mother she is loved and not alone.
